High School Tag

If you could go back and tell your teenage self one thing, what would it be? Not to sweat the small stuff and don’t be so concerned about how I looked (even though I looked pretty dorky)
Did you do any extra curricular activities in high school? Yes, I was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, a member of Homemakers of America, on Student Council my Junior year, and on Seminary Council my Senior year.
What did you do with your free time? Hang out with my friends.
Coolest thing you did as a teenager? I don’t think I really did anything cool. I wasn’t very much of a daredevil and I did everything my parents said (just ask my sisters).
Did you have a boyfriend in high school? Yes, and I am married to him now.
Songs that come to mind? Forever Young, which was our theme song for prom. If you could change one thing, what would it be? I would probably study harder. I got good grades but I know I could have done better.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A pediatric nurse
Picture of self…I don’t have any that I can show. I’ll have to look and see if I can find one and post it later.
Craziest thing you did in high school? I had a Ford LTD that was the longest car ever and it only got AM stations so Janean, my friend Mary Ann and I would turn up the radio really loud (that was tuned in to the imagination station) and sing out the window. We were pretty dumb but we had a great time!

Has anyone ever had a day where they had the thought that everything was going pretty good and that it was going to be a great day? Well I had that thought this morning and then I was punished for thinking it. I was on the phone with our plant material broker when Pieper came in crying and saying that she had pooped. Of course she said it so loud that I'm sure the guy heard everything she said. So I just ignored her for a little bit until I looked over and remembered that she didn't have a diaper on because she had just gotten out of the bathtub. So I quickly ended the phone call and went in search of Pieper's poop because she couldn't remember where it was. It was the nastiest thing ever. I got it taken care of and put Pieper's diaper on and while I was getting her dressed I said, "Pieper you need to start going to the bathroom on the toilet. Do I need to start giving you cold showers (a method to get kid's toilet trained that sounds so mean but it really works)?" She said, "Yes, I think so." Obviously she has no idea what I am talking about. I keep telling her that she can't go to Grandma's pre-school if she doesn't start going to the bathroom on the toilet but she doesn't get it. So that will be my project this summer!
As I was driving the kids to school this morning Adriana said, "Mom, when people get older do they get to change their name to something else?" I told her that if a lady gets married she usually changes her last name to her husbands last name. But that is not what she meant so I told her that sometimes when people get older they decided to change their name to something else. A few minutes later she said, " I think when I am older I am going to change my name." I asked her what she would change it to and she said she would have to think about it. A couple minutes later she said, "I think I would like to change my name to Stephanie. So will you tell everybody to start calling me Stephanie from now on?" I told her that we might get confused when somebody calls and asks if Stephanie can play and I might answer and tell them that I have to work so she wouldn't ever be able to play with anybody. She quickly said, "We'd just have to ask which Stephanie they wanted to talk to, the mom or the daughter."

Here are some pictures of the girls playing outside in the warm sun. They played outside for over six hours and had the best time. I had to lube Adriana and Pieper up with sunscreen about three times because it was such a warm day and I was worried about them getting a sunburn. Pieper actually did get a little strip of her back burned because I missed putting sunscreen there but I'm grateful it wasn't more than that. She has such fair skin that she will burn within 20 minutes of being outside. Adriana has gotten very good at reminding me to put sunscreen on them because I usually forget.

The girls ran through the sprinkler, swam in the pool, and spent some time "laying" out and trying to get a tan. I know I have said it before but it's amazing how fast they are growing up! They had a great time and we are looking forward to another warm day so they can do it again.

Last week the Adriana, Adelie, Mallory, and Pieper decided to play outside since it was so warm. I looked outside to check on the girls and this is what I found. Adriana, Adelie, and Whytli were standing at the fence watching Harrison and Parker play at the neighbor's house. It was so sad because they wanted to go over there to play with them but the boys wouldn't let them.
I wanted to quickly write a couple things that Pieper and Adriana said this weekend before I forget.

We were driving in the car the other day and out of the blue Adriana said, "Dad, how did you get mom?" At first we didn't understand what she was talking about and then we realized that she wanted to know how we met. So we told her that we met at the Little Acorn and then she said, "Dad, did you get down on one knee and ask mom to marry you?" It's funny how much of a romantic she is. I think she has watched so many princess movies that she thinks everyone is proposed to like they are in the movies. It was pretty cute!

Jeff was getting ready this morning and Pieper told him that she wanted to go with him. He told her that he wasn't going anywhere but that wasn't good enough for her and she insisted that he was going somewhere so he said, "I'm going to China." She didn't really say anything else and then a while later when Jeff was getting on his jacket once again Pieper said that she wanted to go with him. Jeff asked her where she wanted to go and she said, "China." When we pulled up to the restaurant where we were going to eat she started to cry because "she wanted to go to China and not to eat."

A couple days ago Pieper got mad at me for something and she said, "Fine then your not going to my birthday party and you're not my best friend." I thought it was so funny because I know exactly where she got that from...Kynli, Laura, Adriana, Adelie, and Whytli. They are always threatening each other with that and the funny thing is they get upset about it and actually believe each other.

Last week Harrison came home from school with the biggest smile on his face. I was on the phone when he walked through the door and I could tell that he wanted to tell me something so I quickly ended the conversation so he could talk to me. He pulled out of his backpack a Rees Eagle Reward that he had been striving for all year. He was beaming from ear to ear. Parker was a little jealous but he said he was going to try and earn one next year. Parker made the comment that he was so excited for Harrison when he heard his teacher call his name. I took out my camera and Harrison said, "Oh, are you going to take a picture of me for your blog?" I knew that he was excited about it because he never likes me to take pictures of him.

I got a bumbo chair for Madison, which is the greatest invention in the world by the way, and she loves it so much. Last night I put her in it and she kept laughing and smiling. I think she was so happy to be sitting up. She is at the stage where she is trying to lift up her head when she is lying down and she gets so frustrated because she's not quite strong enough to do it yet. Nash (Janean's baby) took a turn in the bumbo chair and he didn't seem to care one way or another.

I wanted to get some free advertising and post some pictures of the nursery that we bought. I am having so much fun running it! At times I think we may have been a little bit crazy to add something else to our already hectic lives but I am enjoying it and I think it will be great in the long run. The focus of the nursery in the past has been mainly been contractors but we are working on changing that and selling to the public as well. We provide trees and bushes at a wholesale price and if we don't have a certain variety of tree or bush we can bring it in within a week or two. I am excited to make some changes and hopefully expand what is already there! Jennifer has been a great help in maintaining the nursery and helping me come up with new ideas for advertising! We've had a lot of fun working on new projects and coming up with some great ideas. Thanks Jen!
As I already mentioned....I made it through the sleepover with nine little girls. It went rather well and we didn't have any fighting or crying like I though we might. It's bound to happen with emotional little girls but I lucked out this time. I think it helped that the boys were gone to the JAZZ game with Jeff otherwise there probably would have been quite a bit of teasing going on.
The night began at 6:30 and almost immediately the girls decided to put their pajamas on and play outside. They had a great time jumping on the trampoline and playing hide-n-go-seek. Janean and I tried to teach them a new game, colored eggs, but they didn't really get the concept of it. We use to play that game for hours and hours when we were younger and we never got tired of it but they only played for about five minutes and then they were on to the next. A few minutes later the pizza finally arrived and the girls scarfed it down in record time. We made it through dinner with only a couple spills, which isn't too bad for as many people as we had sitting around the table. After they ate Adriana and Adelie were ready to open their presents. They got some great stuff and they decided to put some of it to good use by painting their toenails and fingernails. It was fun to see the different combinations that they came up with on their nails. Pieper and Mallory tried to do it themselves but quickly realized that they needed some help if they wanted any polish to actually get on their nails. After they finished painting their nails I convinced them to head inside to watch a movie. I thought they might calm down and possibly fall asleep but the kissing scenes on High School Musical got them all worked up so they couldn't fall asleep. I went downstairs at 10:30 when the movie had finished and told them it was time to wind down and get in their sleeping bags. I thought for sure that some of them would doze off but once again they got worked up when they began telling stories. I could hear them from my room upstairs just laughing and giggling like crazy. Finally at 12:30 am I went downstairs and threatened to turn all the lights off and that finally calmed them down and within a couple minutes they were all asleep. I thought they would sleep in since they went to bed so late but they were up bright and early the next morning at 6:45 am. After a good breakfast of pancakes and bacon they got dressed and decided to put on some makeup. It was fun to watch them getting ready! Once again Mallory and Pieper tried to help themselves but it didn't work out and they had to have some help. It was a little sad to watch the girls play and realize that within a few years they are going to be all grown up. I think they all had a great time and we'll have to do it again but at Janean's house next time:)

Well I survived the night with nine little girls sleeping at my house. I thought it would be fun to have a sleepover for Adriana's birthday and then I decided to combine it with Adelie since her birthday is six days after Adriana's. So we had quite the full house. Everyone had a great time! I will post some pictures at some point but first I need to take a little nap since they didn't fall asleep until 12:30 AM and decided to get up at 6:45 AM.

This picture says a lot about Pieper such as:

-she is very stubborn

-she loves Spongebob

-she likes to pick out her own clothes

-if it were up to Pieper every day would be a pajama day

She wanted to wear her Spongebob pajamas so bad and it is very hard to reason with Pieper so I quit trying and decided to let her wear her Spongebob pajamas over her clothes. We had just gone to the store and found these pajamas but they were about four sizes too big but Pieper "needed" them. So I bought them and figured I could just alter them (ya right...I actually thought that Shannon or her mom could probably alter them for me). Pieper actually wanted to put them on right then and there but I convinced her to wait until we got home. As soon as we walked into the house she had to have them on. She was so excited!

This picture was taken a couple days ago. I had just changed Madison's diaper, she had just had a bottle, and she was very tired so I put her in bed and thought she would go to sleep. A couple minutes after I put her in her bed she began to cry. I ignored her crying because I knew that she didn't need anything. A couple minutes went by and she wouldn't stop crying so I went to check on her...and this is what I found. No wonder she was so mad!

This picture was from a couple weeks ago but I wasn't into blogging at the time so it never got posted. I was gone running errands and Jennifer was working in the office. She went to check on Pieper and this was how she found her. She was so tired she couldn't even take the time to get up onto the couch.

Harrison has been mowing my mom and dad's lawn this year and he also picked up their neighbor's (Jon and Kellye) as well. He loves to mow the lawn and it's a bonus that he gets to earn money while he is doing it. When he did my parent's lawn he would use their mower and then he would use our mower to mow Jon and Kellye's but that didn't last too long because the self propel broke and it wasn't running right so I decided it was time to get Harrison a new mower. I told him that I would pay for half of it and he would have to work off the rest. So my dad took him a couple weeks ago to Home Depot and helped Harrison pick out a mower and a weed eater. Harrison was so excited when he got home he couldn't stop smiling. My dad pulled it out of the box and helped Harrison put it all together. As soon as it was put together Harrison began mowing the lawn. He was a little hesitant at first and made the comment that he sort of didn't want to mow the lawn with the mower because it looked so nice and clean. He did a great job and it's nice that he finally has a reliable mower and weed eater. A couple days ago he asked me if he could take out flyers and advertise that he mows lawns so he can get some more business. I think it's great that he likes to work and he is a dang hard worker and can do anything he puts his mind to.

Pieper is such a social person and loves to play with other kids. She especially likes to play with her cousin Mallory. Every once in a while they fight with each other but they usually make up pretty quickly and are best friends again.
Lately they have been holding hands a lot and walking around. Sometimes they will fall rather than let go of each others hands.

BYU fan through and through
I need to give a little background information before I proceed with my story. Parker and Harrison love BYU and they have a little rivalry going on with our neighbors (Kay and Dave Perkins) because they are Utah fans.
So today Parker went over to Dave's and asked him if he would pump up the tire on his bike. Dave said, "No way...not when you have on BYU shorts." He was just kidding of course but Parker took him seriously and quickly went home and changed into some red shorts. He immediately went back to Dave's house again and asked him once more. Dave just laughed and pumped it up for him because he noticed that he had changed into red shorts. Once Dave was finished Parker went right home and changed back into his BYU shorts.
I want to let you all know that my day ended up being a lot better than it started out although Pieper did spill a whole bag of saltine crackers on the floor this morning right after I had swept it and then she proceeded to walk in the middle of them for some reason. Anyway...my day was rather busy because Jeff "forgot" his phone at home and so I was on double duty today and had to answer both my phone and his phone plus the home phone. I am beginning to think that Jeff might have forgotten his phone at home on purpose just so he could have a break and wouldn't have to answer it. No lie, I bet between our two phones I was answering calls about every five minutes. My desk doesn't look like I even put a dent in the work that I had to do but I promise that I worked all day and I think I got something accomplished.

Jennifer got her braces on today and so for a while I had to try and juggle the two phones on my own but it worked out and I am going to make sure that Jeff doesn't "forget" his phone again.
Wow...can you believe I actually have a picture on my blog. I will have Dani make cards, or Carrie bake bread, or have April make a skirt for anybody who can guess when the next picture will be posted. Just kidding...I will admit that it took me a bit to figure out how to put a picture on here but I finally did it and it doesn't look to bad (if I do say so myself). So I think I might just add a few more in the future.

Yesterday I spent the majority of the day with Harrison at his track meet. It was a lot of fun to watch him run and it brought back a bunch of memories of my days at the track meet. I always signed up for the softball throw, the standing long jump, and the 50 yard dash because I did not like running and I wanted to get out of it anyway possible. I also remember all the kids that had "cool" lunches that were full of candy, soda pop, and chips. I was always jealous because my lunch was a little healthier with not that many cool things in it.

I was amazed at how much some of the parents get into the whole event. Some of the parents would scream at the top of their lungs while their child was running, which was embarrassing me and I wasn't even related to them. I can't even imagine how embarrassed their child was. One guy even tried to argue with the man in charge about how he had set the kids up wrong on the relay race. He was concerned about some of the kids having an advantage and he rambled on and on about it and would not shut up. I was so embarrassed for him as well.

Harrison actually likes to run and he came in second place on the 50 yard dash and second place on the 200 meter run. He also ran in the relay race where his team placed 5th. Overall I think he did quite well and he enjoyed it, which makes it even better.
For some reason I am having one of those days where everything and everyone is bugging me. I am sure that I am not the only one that has a day like this but everything seems to be making me mad. It all started when I got up to go to the gym and my trainer decides that he doesn't want to show up for the millionth time (doesn't he realize that it's almost swimsuit season). My hair looks ugly today and for some reason every pair of pants I put on today don't fit the way I want them to. Why can't someone invent a pair of pants that suck you in in all the right places without be so uncomfortable you want to scream?

I just wanted to give everyone a fair warning that if I bite your head off today I apologize but odds are it's your fault and not mine:)

I have one thing to say and that is...thank heaven for bedtime. I don't know what was the deal tonight but Pieper was into everything. I was trying to tidy everything up and do the laundry so I wouldn't have to worry about it in the morning and little miss Pieper was right behind me making a mess of everything. She got into the lotion, not once but twice and the second time she got it all over my carpet. I just hope it will come out and if it doesn't it's going to come out of Pieper's allowance (ya right, what two year old even gets the concept of money). She spilled water on the floor in the kitchen and I walked in there when the light was off and slipped and fell. Pieper was right behind me saying, "What happened mom?" (and of course it was in her sweet, innocent little voice). While I was putting the laundry away Pieper decided to try and make Madison a bottle with a brand new can of baby formula that is now one fourth of the way gone because Pieper isn't coordinated enough to make it into the bottle. Can you imagine how that bottle would have tasted (pure cream for sure) and we all now that Madison doesn't need any more fattening up, she already has thighs like you wouldn't believe.

Anyway...the kids are safely tucked away in their beds so at least my house will stay clean for a few hours and hopefully there won't be any more mishaps until tomorrow morning.

And no...I didn't get any pictures of the mess because I was too angry and it wasn't funny at the time and I would rather not remember the naughtiness (Is that even a word? If not I am inventing it right now and the definition is simply going to be...Pieper Duvall.).
I wanted to write about something that Pieper said last Friday (I just remembered). I have a lady come and clean my house every Friday and for some reason Pieper calls her "lady." I guess she thinks that is her name. So I had just combed Pieper's hair and got her off the counter and she went running into the other room and said, "Lady, look at my cute hair. Do you like it lady?" The lady that cleans is Spanish and I don't think she could really understand what Pieper was saying but I couldn't stop laughing.

I have a story that should be on Jennifer's blog but since she hasn't done one I am going to include it on my blog because it's too funny to go to waste.

Dustin was working on Saturday night and he pulled a lady over for speeding. She was upset and of course she didn't want him to give her a ticket so she said, "Please don't give me a ticket it's Mother's Day." Dustin finished putting all the information into the computer and then walked back to her car, handed her the ticket and said, "Mother's Day isn't until tomorrow."
Jeff and I have a deal where he puts the two girls to bed at night and I get up with Madison during the night. Every once in a while when Jeff gets home late I have to put the girls to bed and they always complain and want to wait until Jeff gets home. I couldn't figure out why they wanted him instead of me. I always read them a story before they fall asleep but I guess Jeff makes up stories for them, which is why they always want him to put them to bed. Well the other day Adriana was telling me about a story that Jeff made up about a lion.

The lion was in a zoo and his hair was getting really long and he wanted a haircut so he kept trying to tell the zookeeper but all the zookeeper could hear was the lion roaring. The lion would say, "will you please cut my hair because it's getting so long," but all the zookeeper could hear was "roar roar roar roar roar roar roar roar." The zookeeper couldn't figure out what was wrong with the lion for the longest time until one day the zookeeper realized that the lions hair was covering his eyes and decided to cut his hair. From then on the lion didn't roar any more. Adriana thought that was the best story ever.

So a couple nights ago I was reading a story to Pieper and Adriana about a princess and Pieper asked me what princess I was. I told her princess Stephanie. A couple seconds later she asked me what her princess name was and I said it was princess Pieper. Then she asked me what Adriana's princess name was and I said princess Adriana. Pieper said, "No, she's Snow wipe (instead of Snow White)." I couldn't stop laughing. Pieper decided that she didn't want to be princess Pieper she wanted to be princess Jasmin.

Madison got her two month shots today and it was so sad because she would not stop crying. Pieper was so concerned about her and kept trying to shove the bottle into her mouth but Madison was not in the mood for a drink. She just wanted to cry and let us know how much it hurt. After about five minutes of crying she finally fell asleep. I was going to take a picture of her getting her shots but I thought that some of you might just pass out (I know Jeff would). So sorry...no pictures.
I have a funny story about what happened (or could have happened to me) this morning. My morning routine usually starts around 5:40 AM when my alarms goes off. I get up and get ready to go to they gym. Once I'm ready I go into the kitchen and get something small to eat and then I weigh myself in the main bathroom. This morning when I went into the bathroom I happened to glance in the mirror as I walked by and guess what I saw...my pants were on inside out. How embarrassing would that have been to walk around the gym with my pants on inside out. I am so glad that I noticed it before I left. I am sure that everyone at the gym would have had quite the laugh at my expense.

I had Janean's sister-in-law take pictures of my girls and they turned out so cute! They are nice because they aren't real formal pictures. They are more natural shots and they turned out so cute. Janean has a link on her blog if you want to see how they turned out.

I also got Madison's pictures taken from a lady that I found (Jeff did her landscape). They turned out so cute! I have included the link below if anybody wants to look at them.

http://bethgrahamphotography.com/duvall4.25.08/index.htm
Pieper has quite the personality and lately I have noticed that she has created a name for certain things, which are pretty funny and quite logical when you think about it. If she wants perfume on she tells me she wants some "neck" and if she wants some chapstick or lipstick on she says she wants some "lips."

Madison has started to smile so much lately. It is the cutest thing ever! Harrison can even get her to laugh sometimes. She especially loves to smile at Jeff, which just melts his heart! The past couple of days she has been trying to sit up. It is the funnest thing to watch. She'll be in bed or in her carseat and she will pull her head up as far as she can. She gets pretty frustrated at times because she can't do it. It's amazing how much she reminds me of Harrison. Harrison was sitting up when he was three months old and I think Madison may be the same way.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

I have another adventure to tell about that happened today. It's not about my kids but it's about Jennifer's kids and I am going to write about it since she doesn't have a blog yet. I am sure that what I am going to write about is something that has happened to almost everyone and it's so dang frustrating! Jennifer decided to get her kid's pictures taken so she could give it to her mother-in-law for Mother's Day. I am sure that almost everyone has had a similar experience...I know I have. I didn't think it would be that hard because she only has two kids but I was wrong. Kynli would not relax in the pictures and Creed would not sit still. I was trying to be a good "helper" and coming up with ways to distract him but none of them worked. We gave him a ball because he loves them but that didn't work because he kept throwing it. I gave him some snacks but he kept chewing with his mouth open so that didn't work. The last thing I tried was my cell phone but he kept putting it up to his ear. Jennifer played peak-a-boo with him and she did get a few cute pictures but not as many as she wanted. Kynli did a good job but she wouldn't relax. We got her to smile by saying, "Dad has stinky feet." She thought that was pretty funny. The photographer is going to try and do a couple head swaps and see if she can get a picture of the both of them smiling.

There have been so many times that I have tried to get pictures taken of my kids and they will not cooperate. I love to get their pictures taken but it stresses me out because I want them to be perfect with everyone smiling and happy but that's just not reality. By the end of the session almost everyone is crying and I'm ready to pull my hair out. I often wonder why I even get their pictures taken but they always turn out so cute.

One of these times I am going to take a camcorder and record my kids while they are getting their pictures taken because I know without a doubt that I could win some money on America's Funniest Videos.

Hopefully Jennifer's mother-in-law appreciates the picture and understands all the hard work that goes along with the picture.

5. What is one thing you would change in your life? I would be more patient with my kids
6. What is the last movie you saw? Horton Hears a Who
7. Do you prefer your toilet paper under or over? definitely under. I can't stand it when people put it over the top and if I ever have to use the bathroom at someone elses house I will change it.

9. Do you have a nickname and were did you get it from? My brother use to call me "pepper" because he said I had a temper and could get fired up like pepper.
10. Do you like your name? Yes, I like my name and I especially like my middle name (Adriana)
11. What are your favorite things to do? read, shop, do book work, exercise (ya right), read outside, watch my kids playing on a warm day

I have been getting quite a bit of crap from people about not putting anything on my blog but it's so hard to sit down and do it when I have so much work to get done. But I do have a story about something that happened today while Jennifer and I were working.

We were in Salem today putting flyers on people's doors for the landscaping business and the nursery with Kynli, Adriana, Pieper, and Madison. I was pushing Madison in one stroller and Jennifer was pushing Pieper in another stroller. We figured we would kill two birds with one stone and get in a good cardio workout while handing out flyers. Kynli and Adriana were our "helpers" and they would run the flyers up to the door while we stood and watched (great workout huh). No we actually put some on the doors too. Anyway...we got to a culdesac and told Kynli to run and put some flyers on the door of a house that was about 100 yards away from us. She was happy to do it and we were perfectly content to watch her do it too:) As we stood there and watched Kynli walk up the steps of the house we heard a loud buzzing noise. Jennifer look north of where we were standing and there was a swarm of about 1,000 bees (I am not exaggerating at all). Jennifer started screaming because they started flying around us. We started to run away and realized that we had left Kynli behind. Jennifer started yelling at Kynli to run so consequently Kynli started crying and running because she had no clue what was going on. I told Jennifer to push the two strollers away from the bees (with Adriana's help) while I ran and got Kynli. I grabbed Kynli and we ran through the swarm of bees. It was so scary because they were hitting our faces and bodies all over. I told Kynli to cover her face while we ran through them. This all happened in about one minutes time and it was over fairly quickly but it was sure scary at the time. We have no idea where they came from and how we made it without anybody being stung.

I am sure that we looked so funny running, screaming, and swatting at the bees. There were several contractors in the area and they probably got a good laugh. I don't think we will be returning to that area any time soon.

Okay everybody someday I will post some stuff on here but it has been so crazy busy lately that I haven't had a chance to do anything but work, work, and more work. Today we did take a little time off and we headed to the women's expo at UVU. We had a great time looking at all the products and services that people were providing. It was fun to get away for a little bit and do something besides work.
